I walked through the maze of cubicles, glancing briefly left and right as I passed openings to colleague’s desks and chairs to meet with clients. I caught the eye of one girl and smiled. Then stopped on a dime in recognition of a familiar face. I tapped her father (Mark, changed to protect identity) on the shoulder and quickly dashed behind the cubicle wall. I stood and returned with a smile, and met one as well. How nice to greet, shake hands and touch base with this hard working man, loving father. We briefly checked in while his caseworker was away momentarily. He is struggling but hanging on. I don’t have any great answers or fixes for his situation. I played my poker face and cheered him on, not letting him see the hurt and pain I feel he is living through. After wishing him well and confirming our meeting later in the week I headed for my desk only to be stopped by a friend and colleague. She explained to me that she had just prayed I would show up while Mark was still at the office. WOW, I am answered prayer. What a humbling, way cool experience. How often does this happen without any of us knowing we are part of a grander mystery? And I was told about it. I have no idea what impact my interaction with Mark had, if any really. But I am confident I am a valuable tool being used to support, care for, experience and share compassion as a human connecting with other humans on this journey called life.
How can you and I be open to being part of God’s answered prayer today, and each day? Listen, be still, be aware and pray. Amen.
What prayer requests do you have today? Share them and be prayed for, be as general or specific as you like. August 22 BEACH TRIP |
